The Old City Of Jerusalem
If you doubt the importance of this city, know this; it is the birthplace of all the Abrahamic religions including; Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The Old City is a 0.35 square mile walled area in the heart of the present day Jerusalem City. It is home to some of the most controversial, yet important, religious monuments in the three above mentioned religions. Among these buildings are;
- the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque for the Muslims
- the Church of the Holy Sepulcher for Christians and
- the Temple Mount and Western Wall for Jews
Over the centuries, the Old City was divided unevenly. Due to the sensitivity of the its heritage, the city is presently divided into several quarters namely; The Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter.
Whichever of the religions you belong to; there is a lot of history to be learnt here. You will get to trace the roots of your religion and understand your spiritual inclination better. Besides, you can explore the rest of Israel and trace the paths of popular people such as Jesus of Nazareth.
